  Johann Johannsson

 

Jóhann Jóhannsson is a composer from Iceland with a background in a variety of different genres of music and an impressive series of works to his name.

His solo recording include, ‘Englabörn’ (2002), written for string quartet and electronics & ‘Virðulegu Forsetar’ (2004), for brass, percussion, organ and piano (both released on the respected British label Touch) and 2006’s critically acclaimed 4AD release ‘ IBM 1401, a User´s Manual’, written for a string orchestra and electronics.

Jóhannsson's many side-projects include the analog synth based rock group Apparat Organ Quartet and the electronic music collective Evil Madness. He has also collaborated with many internationally renowned artists including Marc Almond, Barry Adamson, Pan Sonic, Laetitia Sadier (Stereolab) and Jaki Liebezeit (Can).

His music has been featured in several films, including Wicker Park (2004), Ashes and Snow (2006), Opium, Diary of a Madwoman (2007) and Voleurs De Cheveaux (2007).

As well as his feature film scores, Jóhannsson has written for many documentaries, short films, theatre productions, instillations and several contemporary dance works.
